Amazon Mi-Ki's

We are the owners of a newly registered Continental Mi-Ki Association kennel, Amazon Mi-Ki's, with a mission of providing quality Mi-Ki's who are highly socialized to fit easily as a family pet or to provide love and joy as a beloved therapy dog.

Therapy dogs Suki and Heartley are regulars at our day job - Debbie owns and Nancy helps operate the local Home Instead Senior Care - so it's not just a life of luxury and lounging (although our dogs are CERTAINLY spoiled!) Research about therapy dog is what keyed us in to the Mi-Ki breed in early 2005.

While we are somewhat new to the Mi-Ki world, we have had the great fortune of having top Mi-Ki mentors in the breeders we purchased our dogs from and other CMA breeders. We continue to increase our Mi-Ki knowledge as part of our ongoing commitment to owning and raising quality dogs.

Our Business

Amazon Mi-Ki's was established in August 2007 as a second business after we realized the potential benefits of therapy and companion dogs. Many of the clients receiving in-home care from Home Instead used to be dog owners, however, changes in residence and health prohibit ownership leaving a huge gap in every day life.

Absence of canine companionship creates a BIG need for these LITTLE dogs with LOTS of HEART!

When choosing a kennel name, we thought first of words which personified strong women and naturally ones with a reference to location. Amazon - as in the Amazon Women Warriors of Greek mythology and Amazon Creek - close to where we call home. Thus, Amazon Mi-Ki's, a whimsical moniker for our business, came to be. To carry that creativity just a step further, the pups born to our kennel will be named pups after Greek mythological figures.

Who We Are

Debbie Olsen - Not new to business ownership, Debbie started the Lane County franchise of Home Instead Senior Care in June 2000. Her background in social work and strong motivation to make sure families are not left in crisis when a loved one is no longer able to meet his/her own needs. Debbie saw the benefit firsthand of therapy dogs and knew it was a venture with big benefit. (Top picture)

Nancy NesSmith - A native Oregonian whose rural upbringing and pet ownership went hand-in-hand shared Debbie's interest in therapy dogs. Providing top-level care to clients and our Mi-Kis is a shared vision. (The picture below Deb's)
